Changes abound in 2013 schedule!

Sponsors Step-up Their Support of Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway

Oshkosh, WI, April 4, 2013 – While track crews are busy removing snow from the third-mile clay oval in anticipation of milder weather the 2013 season is rapidly approaching. Just days away is the annual car show, held again this season at Lowe’s of Oshkosh. The show which proved very successful last year will mark the first time fans will see the new equipment prepared for racing by dedicated crews this past off-season.

While the annual car show is tried and true there are many tweaks to the 2013 schedule designed to add even more to a successful race season.

First up is the season opening event. For the first time in many season Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway will be opening with a special rather than the start of its Friday night point season. The first green flag will be given on Saturday Night April 20th as the "Spring Brawl" is set to take place featuring the finest Sprint Car drivers in the Midwest. The Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprints will highlight the program with their 410 cubic inch winged machines which put out nearly 900 horsepower. The cars are the fastest race vehicles to be seen on dirt each season at the Speedzone. Joining the IRA Outlaw Sprints for the first time ever in the same program at Oshkosh will be the MSA 360 Sprints which will feature the top drivers from the weekly Sprint car programs at Manitowoc and Plymouth. Rounding out the show will be a non-point Street Stock events featuring cars from all the area tracks.

Another major change to the schedule is the addition of the George Scheffler Memorial Race and Hales Corner Reunion night. On Friday Night August 23rd, the roar of WDLMA Late Models will be heard as Wisconsin’s fastest fendered cars converge at the Speedzone to do battle for supremacy in one of the area’s most prestigious dirt late model events. It will also be Hales Corners reunion night as fans will congregate at “The Zone” and remember the legendary Hales Corners Speedway which closed several seasons ago. The combination of these activities will make this show a must see event on the Oshkosh Speedzone 2013 schedule.

The final special event of the season is the the Speedzone Fall-Classic. The show has been tweaked into an all-day action packed festival of speed. The program which will feature Modifieds, Sport Modifieds, IMCA Type Stock Cars, Grand Nationals, Street Stocks and 4 cylinders and run as a complete show with heats, consolation races, semi-features and main events all in a single day. Expect nearly 200 cars and almost 300 laps of racing action to take place on Saturday September 7th.

Other major changes at the track this season include sanctioning of the Automotive Supply Company Modifieds with IMCA. IMCA sanctioned events take place in the Modifieds at most area tracks and the addition of IMCA sanctioning at Oshkosh Speedzone will allow drivers to compete for regional and national IMCA points. Oshkosh Speedzone which ranked among the highest in the nation in weekly modified car counts should be a great addition to IMCA’s base of fine dirt tracks and likewise the IMCA sanctioning should entice more drivers to check out Oshkosh Speedzone as a means to score lucrative IMCA points.

Other changes in 2013 at “The Zone” include division sponsors. Long-time supporters Automotive Supply Company and Total Power Sales will be back with naming rights to the IMCA Modifieds and Street Stocks respectively but the three other divisions will see new branding. First up is the Outlaw Chassis Grand Nationals. Former division champion and chassis builder Kenny Richards has stepped up to sponsor the division which had been branded by Miller Lite the past several seasons. Miller Lite continues as the primary sponsor of the track’s scoreboard.

The IMCA Northern Sport Modifieds are now presented by Hansel Trucking who will also be the nightly sponsor of the mid-season championship events at the track. Rounding out the new division sponsors is Ellington Mutual Insurance who came aboard to support Oshkosh Speedzone with a front stretch billboard several seasons ago and had now stepped up to claim naming rights to the entry level class.

Two other major sponsorship changes includes the addition Knaus Cheese and Weyauwega Star Dairy as the new victory lane sponsor for 2013. In addition to victory lane they proudly present the annual Leroy Dehn Memorial race which is held this season on Friday Night August 2nd. Dominos’ Pizza also has a greater presence in 2013 becoming an associate sponsor of the track scoreboard and continuing with the fan favorite “Night of Fire” event featuring fireworks on Friday Night July 5th.

All these changes are taking place to encourage fans and participants to choose Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway as the place to satisfy their “Need for Speed” this racing season.
