Racing Returns after Record Setting Season Opener!

Oshkosh, WI, May 8, 2013 – It was a record setting opening night just two weeks ago with an overflowing pit area and a large crowd on hand as the Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway opened it’s 2013 season. The last week…. The rains came postponing the planned Dan Kelly Plumbing Night until May 31st.

Drivers and fans are looking to carry forward the momentum of opening night in this Friday Night program presented by CitizensFirst Credit Union. The local lending institution with branches in Oshkosh and Fond du Lac is supporting local racing by sponsoring two racing events this season at Oshkosh Speedzone. In addition to presenting the May 10th program, CitizensFirst will be supporting the Oshkosh Speedzone Fall Classic, the largest single day event on the 2013 season schedule. CitizensFirst representatives will also be on hand with prizes and giveaways during the show. Additionally CitizensFirst members are able to attend this event with special 2 for 1 discount admission by obtaining a special coupon for CitizensFirst locations and then showing your CitizenFirst membership card.

The momentum for a successful season remains alive as on Tuesday night 47 drivers participated in a practice session with an overwhelming majority of Modifieds taking to the pit area. Though other classes were represented in that number, the indications are clear that this season Modifieds are again the mainstay of Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway. Known as “Wisconsin’s Modified Action Track” Oshkosh Speedzone continues into 2013 with one of the highest weekly Modified car counts in the nation.

The Automotive Supply Company IMCA Modified division saw 45 participants on opening night and the track has once again opted to increase the size of its feature starting field to accommodate the large turnout of cars. The Hansel Trucking IMCA Northern Sport Modifieds have also grown in numbers with a record setting 39 drivers participating on opening night.

The wide sweeping turns and smooth racing surface have attracted drivers from throughout the state to participate in the highly competitive class at The Zone.

Fans of fendered cars can witness the Outlaw Chassis Grand Nationals and Total Power Sales Street Stock divisions. The Street Stocks had the surprise finish of the week during last week’s show with Jerry Kope charging from third to first on the final lap to score the victory, while Tim Reichenberger dominated the Grand Nationals.

Not to be overshadowed was an amazing turnout of 29 Ellington Mutual Insurance Dirt Devils which established a weekly record for the class. The opening night show marked the first time in many season that a consolation race took place for the entry level division. The drivers also presented a green to checkered finish in their main event.

Over 120 cars are expected to check into the pit area again this Friday Night for the five division show.

Racing is set to begin at 7:00pm, and the grandstands will be open at 5:00pm. Adult admission is just $10, with you admission for youngsters ages 11 through 15 just $5. Children are admitted FREE with a paid adult.

The “Lucky Crapper” will still make its debut this week. The “Lucky Crapper” is a non-functioning toilet next to the Panske Enterprises Souvenir stand beneath the grandstands at Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway.

Donated by Dan Kelly Plumbing. It will be used to collect information requests and even a means to have area businesses announced on the public address system. Its purpose will grow as the season progresses.

In the next couple weeks several surveys will be made by the track to help improve marketing by polling fans about their interests in motorsports. The “Lucky Crapper” will be used to collect these surveys and several prizes will be awarded.

Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway is a 1/3 mile semi-banked clay oval located at the Sunnyview Expo Center which resides near the intersection of Highways 76 and County Trunk Y in Oshkosh.
