So many times we take forgranted what has been sacrificed for us to enjoy the things we do. Friday night was the beginning of the Memorial Day weekend where things much larger than racing take the green flag in our minds. The Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway opened the weekend with action packed night of racing.
Total Power Sales Street Stock
Heat Winners Jerry Winkler, Fank Knaus, and Joe Wittman
Derek Schrauth took the lead early only to have Nate Gross power passed on lap two of the Total Power Sales Street Stock feature event. Joe Wittman trying to go back to back took the lead on lap five bringing the Shawn Haydon machine with him to second. It would be a four car breakaway nearing the half way point. Caution would bring the rest of the field up to join the battle on lap 9. Lap 11 would see Haydon ride the momentum of the outside groove to the lead and begin to pull away before another caution slowed the pace. Haydon would again extend his lead and this time take it to Victory Lane with Nate Gross, Travis Grissman, and Wittman rounding the top four out.
Miller Lite Grand Nationals
Heat Winners Larry Richards, Troy Weich, and Don Schumacher
Heat winner Troy Weich and Matt Klenz led the feature pack to the line in to start the night. It would be Weich taking the point early as the racing got action packed behind him. Weich would find Gary Neau to his outside on lap six and relinquish the lead. Steve Schneider would sneak past Weich on the inside grabbing the second spot on the same lap. A one car incident brought out the caution on lap seven bringing Larry Richards into the picture as well. On the restart, Weich would take it three wide down the backstretch to regain the lead. Weich would set his cruise control as Schneider was forced to reckon with Will Schumacher and Terry Van Roy, Weich would pick up the win with Schneider, Schumacher, and Van Roy behind.
Competition Products Modifieds
Heat Winners: Mike Mullen, James Steffanus, Joey Jaeger, and Jeremy Christians
B Main Winner: Steve Kloen
Mike Mullen would show the way early on in the Competition Products Modifieds feature event . Jeremy Christians move to second. After a plethora of caution flags racing got back going with Mullen leading Mike Klenz and Christians at the halfway point. Mullen would dominate the second half of the race as the field became stretched out. Mullen would take the feature event with Klenz, Christians, Brian Drexler and Scott Mullen completing the top five.
Lynn’s Service Center Dirt Devils
Heat Winners: Ben Meyerhoffer, Matt Janke
Fourteen cars took the green in the Lynn’s Service Center Dirt Devil feature with Ben Meyerhofer grabbing the lead early on. Matt Janke would bring the heat to Meyerhofer on lap five overtaking him on lap six. Caution flew as a car would spin in corner four slowing the pace. On the restart it would be Janke and Meyerhofer joined by Steve LeMay in a heated three way battle for the lead. Janke and LeMay would battle side by side for the most part of the second half of the race swapping the lead almost in every corner. LeMay would eventually win the battle and the race with Janke second and Meyerhofer third.
