Tuesday Night Events Lie Ahead on Oshkosh Speedzone Schedule!

Oshkosh, WI, July 22, 2013 – There was a time, when short track racing took place nearly every day of the week. Non-weekend race programs were the highlight of many area short tracks around the country and it was possible to attend race events from Tuesday through Sunday if one were inclined to do so.

Leo’s Speedway, the historical ancestor of the current Oshkosh Speedzone used to hold its racing events on a Tuesday night. The popular Tuesday night races continued throughout Leo’s Speedway history until it closed in the late 1970’s when the fairgrounds moved to its current location at the Sunnyview Expo Center. When Oshkosh Speedzone was built and began operation over two decades after the closing of Leo’s Speedway, the track followed the tradition operating on Tuesday night during its first year of operation.

Times had changed however and the track soon adopted a Friday Night racing program in order to assure its continued success.

There will be two times this year when fans can relive what it was like to enjoy an early week racing program by attending a pair of Tuesday Night events here at Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway. The first event will take place this Tuesday Night, July 23rd as the track features the annual “Walk of Fame” Night. This season the event is presented by Coors Light and Lee Beverage of Oshkosh.

The show honors the traditions of the past Leo’s Speedway and will induct three of its former participants into its Walk of Fame. This year’s inductees are, Larry Hunt, Jim Holdren and Bill Kienast. The evening further emphasizes racing’s heyday with throwback pricing. Admission for fans ages 11 and older is just $5 while those 10 and under are admitted FREE. Special pricing is also in effect for several food and beverage items with $1.00 Soda, BBQ, Hot Dogs and Tap Beer.

Pit gates open at 4:00 PM, Grandstands at 5:00 PM and Racing at 7:00 PM.

A second Tuesday Night race program will be presented on Tuesday night August 6th during the running of the Winnebago County Fair.

Fair attendees can use their general admission pass to witness the racing action which will be taking place on the third-mile clay oval. The fair admission includes admission onto grounds, grandstand shows and unlimited rides, this includes the ability to attend the races at no additional charge above the cost of a fair admission ticket. The fair officially opens at 5:00pm, with racing action set to take place at 7:00pm.

Advance tickets into the fair are just $10 if tickets are purchased by Monday, August 5th. General admission fair tickets purchased at the gate will be $12. To receive the discount fair admission tickets must be pre-ordered prior to Monday, August 5th.

BOTH Tuesday Night special events will showcase a complete point show featuring all five weekly divisions which compete at Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway. A field of nearly 120 cars will be expected for the program as no other area tracks are in operation and it gives drivers from other tracks a great opportunity to experience the competitive racing program at Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway.
