Dominos’ Pizza Presents “Night of Fire” at Oshkosh Speedzone!
Oshkosh, WI, July 1, 2013 – Welcome to summer… we at Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway want to help you start your Independence Day weekend off with a bang! Quite literally. The annual “Night of Fire” is once again presented by Dominos’ Pizza as Oshkosh Speedzone will light up the sky at the conclusion of its Friday night, July 5th racing program with a spectacular fireworks display.
Fun for the whole family, the lightshow will put an exclamation point on a night of great racing action where over 120 cars are expected to participate in the program.
All five weekly racing divisions will be competing in a full point show with heats, consolation races and feature events. The Automotive Supply Company Modifieds have again produced one of the most competitive weekly Modified fields in the midwest as 69 different drivers have tested the third-mile, clay oval at Oshkosh this season. Currently Troy Jerovetz leads the standings by 10 points over his cousin Sean Jerovetz. Troy, the defending Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway IMCA Northern Sport Modified champion, has adapted quickly to the higher horsepower modified class having already won two feature races this season at Oshkosh Speedzone. Sean has also scored two wins this season and, as a former modified champion at the 141 Speedway knows the pressures of running for a championship. Third place point man Johnny “The Hitman” Whitman sits 24 points back as the second half of the point season continues. A field of over 30 Modifieds should be on hand this Friday Night.
The Hansel Trucking IMCA Northern Sport Modifieds has seen Todd Wiese avoid the difficulties which have challenged some of his nearest rivals to lead the standings by a comfortable 33 markers. The closest competition for Wiese are a pair of young talented racers, division rookie Steve Schneider who is tied with Kelsy Hayes for second spot are the biggest threats to challenge Wiese for the title. Schneider, a rookie in the class, scored his first division feature win just last week while Hayes, who earned her first career division feature a few weeks ago has managed to chalk up two feature wins on the season. 57 different drivers have earned points in the Sport Modifieds.
Former division champ, Larry Richards, has a slim two point lead on Terry Van Roy in the Outlaw Chassis Grand National division, while defending title holder Brian Henry now sits only three markers out of first place. Of all the classes the closest point battle is shaping up in the Grand Nationals and the top six drivers are separated by a mere 13 points.
This past week the Total Power Sales Street Stocks presented its largest field of the 2013 racing season with plenty of fender rubbing, paint trading action. Currently Jerry Kope is seeking to add another title in the class to his resume as he holds a 15 point lead over last season’s champion, Richard Garb.
Rounding out the weekly divisions is the Ellington Mutual Insurance Dirt Devils which has seen a fair bit of growth since last year. With half the season in the books, last year’s point runner-up, Mike Montie finds himself atop this year’s standings by three points over Ralph Liegeois Jr. Two-time and defending Dirt Devil champ, Jason Fairbank, sits third overall nine points behind Montie. The lead trio has pulled away from the pack in the title chase to settle the battle for the championship among themselves.

There will be no racing on Friday night July 12th as the track grounds are being used for Lifest. Racing will resume on Friday night July 19th with an appearance by the popular Badger Modified Tour. The show presented by Capital Credit Union will see the Badger Modifieds joined by the Badger Stock Cars. The Stock Car series will be making their inaugural appearance at the track.
