Finest Sprint Car Drivers in the Midwest to Appear at “Spring Brawl” April 20th!
Oshkosh, WI, April 11, 2013 – In just over a week the air will again be filled with the sound of racing action at the Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway. This year’s season opening event held on Saturday Night April 20th, will feature a new look as a very special event will make its debut at the track. For the first time an open-wheeled winged Sprint Car show will launch the season. The event to be known as the “Spring Brawl” will feature the top drivers in the Midwest in two of the area’s strongest series.
Headlining the show will be the 900 horsepower Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprints. Easily the fastest racing machines on area ovals, the 410 Sprint cars will visit the raceway twice this season participating in the opening show and again on Friday Night June 21st. Both programs will be presented by Budweiser and Wisconsin Distributors of Appleton.
Long regarded as one of the nation’s most successful 410 sprint car programs the Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprint Series chose Oshkosh Speedzone as its season opening event. The cast of championship caliber drivers includes five time and defending series champion Bill Balog who is always challenged for the checkered flag by the likes of Mike Reinke, Scott Neitzel, Phillip Mock, Tommy Sexton, Mike Kertscher, Russell Borland. A field of over 30 cars is expected to take to the track.
Last season Balog swept both events at Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway enroute to his fifth consecutive series title. It was not an easy victory however as both Reinke and Neitzel kept the pressure on to the finish in the contest.
Not to be outdone the Midwest Sprint Association, (MSA) 360 Sprints will also be on the card. The 360 Sprints are the featured class of cars at both Plymouth Dirt Track and the Manitowoc County Expo. Among the top drivers expected for the Spring Brawl include Ben Schmidt the multi-time 360 champion at both Manitowoc and Plymouth as well as reigning Plymouth Dirt Track Champion Jeremy Schultz. Schultz is expected to pull double duty racing in both a MSA 360 Sprint and an IRA 410 Sprint. Schultz is also a primary contender for the 2013 Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprint Rookie of the Year title.
Other MSA 360 Sprint drivers expected to appear include Kyle Marten, Ken Jay Fiedler, Al and Danny Schlafer, Paul Pokorski, Scott Theil, Kurt Davis and a cast of other top weekly competitors.
All totaled more than 60 open-wheeled winged sprint cars should be in the pit area set to battle for supremacy on the third-mile clay oval.
But the show still is not complete as a non-point Street Stock program will take place for those who want to see a little fender rubbing action. The weekly cast of Oshkosh Speedzone’s top guns will take on area Street Stock pilots in a non-point event which will allow drivers to utilize their home track rules for this show.
The first green flag for the three division show is to drop at 7:00pm. A full program of heats, consolations and main events will take place in each class and the Bumper to Bumper IRA Outlaw Sprints will qualify prior to the start of the show.
Pit gates are set to open at 4:00pm, with the grandstands opening at 5:00pm. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to get their preferred seat.
Adult admission for this event is $20 with Students ages 11 through 15 are discounted to $10. Young fans ages 10 and under are admitted FREE with a paid adult.
The day following the Spring Brawl, Sunday April 21st, will see the track open for a Test and Tune session giving drivers a chance to prepare their cars for the upcoming season.
