Racette Ford Firecracker Classic with Legends Night

The July 4th weekend got off to a blast at the Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway as the INEX Legends joined the program. A great crowd joined with great weather combined to make it a terrific night at the track. Racette Ford presented the Firecracker Classic to begin the summer in style.

Heat Winners Shawn Haydon, Joe Wittmann, Dan Knaus

The 20 car field took to the track to start the night’s feature events with Gordy lewis setting the early pace. Dan Knaus and Jerry Winkler would fight side by side behind him before Winkler took his car to the front. Patty Winkler with him. Lewis would settle into fourth as Shawn Haydon took over third. It would be a three way breakaway up front as Haydon joined the Winklers up front. Haydon would grab the lead at the halfway point with the Winkler tandem behind him. Caution flew with ten to go bringing the Nate Gross and Joe Wittman car into the battle. Haydon would continue to lead the pack with Brandon Riedier taking the second place position. On the restart, Riedier would lose a motor collecting the Lewis machine as well. The event would be Checkered with Haydon, picking up the win Wittman second and Patty Winkler third.

Miller Lite Grand Nationals
Heat Winners Brian Henry, Troy Weich, and Tim Warner

Rex Karner would set the early pace in the Grand National feature event. It would be a see saw battle at lap five with Troy Weich and Karner trading the lead. Steve Schneider would hold third with Larry Richards fourth. A great five way battle would rage for the middle laps before Schneider grabbed the lead with Richards second and Brian Henry third. A caution with four to go would set up another tight finish. Schneider would take the win with Henry grabbing second on the last lap and Richards third.

Competition Products Modifieds
Heat Winners: Scott Mullen, Chris Engels, Mike Klenz, and Travis Spaulding

Travis Spaulding took command of the Modified feature on lap two and began to run away. Spaulding would continue to dominate at the halfway point with John Schultz and Jeremy Christians fighting for second. The race would continue to fly by with Spaulding extending his lead to six seconds with five to go. With four to go caution would fly for a single car spin in corner one wiping out a nearly seven second lead. On the restart, Christians would be second with Mike Klenz third. Numerous attempts to restart would result in numerous cautions as cars battled for position. The top would be scrambled each time with the constant being Spaulding out front. Spaulding would hold on to pick up the win with Christians and Schultz third.

Lynn’s Service Center Dirt Devils
Heat Winners: Stephen LeMay, Jason Fairbank

Erick Kollman would lead the hard charging Andrew Melberg in the first few laps of the Dirt Devil feature event. Lap ten would see Stephen LeMay work the extreme high side to perfection as he grabbed the lead away. Kollman would slip back to fifth. Jason Fairbank joined LeMay up front for the second half of the race but LeMay was just too strong picking up the win with Fairbank second and Matt Janke third.

INEX Legends
Heat Winners: Dallas Ross, Mike Mueller

Dallas Ross took advantage of his pole position as he grabbed the lead with Dave Fraser grabbing second in the early laps of the Legends feature. Ross would continue to lead at the halfway point with Mike Mueller grabbing second. Mueller would grab the lead on lap twelve with Ross back to second. A lap sixteen caution would set up a four lap shootout. On the restart, Mueller would hold the lead as Joe Johnson moved to second and Ross to third. The checkers would fly with Mueller picking up the win.
