Monday, August 15, 2011 - Oshkosh, WI. - While race teams and fans were ready to resume the 2011 racing season at Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway after a week off due to the Winnebago County Fair, Mother Nature had other plans. With the pit area seeing several new drivers appearing for the 2011 season teams were just unloading their cars and preparing for the evening's race program when a steady drizzle developed. Officials waited to see if conditions would change and 15 minutes later steady rains began. Officials had no choice to cancel the race events for the evening with the show being declared awash at 5:45pm.
Over 100 cars were already in the pit area at the time.
The resulting rainout, which was only the second of the 2011 season will force some changes to the remaining schedule.
Graphic Point, the evening's sponsor will be moved to the August 26th IRA Sprint program. The Brenner Family Benefit and donation barrels will be in place to assist the family which list it's house in a recent fire at the next race program on August 19th.
The next event, the August 19th race program will be presented by Shoreview Lanes and B 104. In addition to the Brenner Family Benefit the show will also feature a Kid's Ride Along Session prior to the start of the race program which is set to get underway at 6:30pm.
The show is also a Fan and Driver Appreciation Night with FREE corn roast and beverages after the racing program to both fans and drivers as a thank you to making Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway your choice for Friday Night entertainment.
The event will feature all five divisions in action with Automotive Supply Company Modifieds, Miller Lite Grand Nationals, Total Power Sales Street Stocks, Leon's Frozen Custard Sport Modified and Lynn's Service Center Dirt Devils all in action. Over 100 cars are expected to participate in the program.
Adult tickets are just $10, with student tickets for students ages 11 to 15 discounted to $5. Children 10 years of age and under are admitted FREE with an adult.
The following week, on August 26th, Graphic Point will present the IRA Outlaw Sprints as the winged warriors make their final appearance of the 2011 season. The 800hp Sprint cars navigate the 1/3 mile clay oval reaching speeds of 120 mph. Current series point leader Billy Balog won the most recent IRA Sprint event at the raceway and is expected to return to defend his June 17th victory.
The program will also be an important point night for the Miller Lite Grand Nationals, Total Power Sales Street Stocks and Lynn's Service Center Dirt Devils.
Racing for the special event will begin at the usual 6:30pm start time.
The final point race of the 2011 season will take place on Friday Night September 2nd. LaSure's Banquet Hall will present the 2011 Championship Night and at the conclusion of the program the champions in each of the five weekly divisions which are on hand this evening will be announced.
The final race of the 2011 racing season on the oval will be the Speedzone Fall Classic which will be a two-day special event. The show begins with heats and qualifying races on Friday Night September 9th and will conclude with last chance and feature races on Saturday Afternoon September 10th.
Last year over 150 cars participated in the program which will feature IMCA Type Modifieds and Sport Modifieds, Grand Nationals, Street Stocks and 4 cylinder cars.
Racing will start at 6:00pm on Friday Night and 3:00pm on Saturday Afternoon.
Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway is a 1/3 mile semi-banked clay oval located at the Sunnyview Expo Center which resides near the intersection of Highways 76 and County Trunk Y in Oshkosh.
