Practice Replaced With Inspection Day at the Track April 13th
Oshkosh, WI, April 7, 2013 – It’s underway! The 2013 racing season officially began with the running of the annual Speedzone Car Show, held for the second straight year at Lowe’s of Oshkosh as part of the stores’ community events day. Presented under cold and blustery conditions several hundred curious onlookers and race fans would stop by the show which showcased the racing machinery set to take to the track this season.
Each of the tracks’ five divisions were represented at the show and awards were given to the best appearing cars within each class. While no best of show award is given at this event those who voted would have been hard pressed to decide which car would have received such an award as the attention to detail, design and lettering makes several of these racing machines truly “auto show” quality.
Kevin Baldry would take top honors in the Automotive Supply Company IMCA Modifieds with his homebuilt chassis. In a day and age where many Modifieds are manufactured by chassis builders Baldry and his crew has a unique one of a kind car for his rookie season in the Speedzone’s top weekly class. In the Hansel Trucking IMCA Northern Sport Modifieds the closest vote took place between Todd Ewald whose car is featured on the 2013 track poster and Mike Dauphinais who made the longest tow to the show from Green Bay. In a close vote Dauphinais edged out Ewald for the honors.
Defending Outlaw Chassis Grand National champion Brian Henry would debut his newly built Ford Fusion bodied Racetech chassis based machine to rave reviews earning best appearing in class. Dan Knaus walked away with best appearing honors in the Total Power Sales Street Stocks with a car prepared by his crew that featured detail work not only in the design and graphics of the machine but throughout the interior of the car as well. Joe Minks rounded out the day’s winners earning best appearing in the Ellington Mutual Insurance Dirt Devil division.
Oshkosh Speedzone Raceway would like to thank each of its competitors for participating in the show, especially given the weather conditions.
Attention now turns to the track where the next pre-season event will take place.
Due to the late arriving spring the on track practice scheduled for April 13th has been postponed. However an inspection day will take place that day at the track from Noon until 4:00pm. Drivers who complete the required forms in the Outlaw Chassis Grand Nationals, Total Power Sales Street Stocks and Ellington Mutual Insurance Dirt Devils will earn 5 extra bonus points toward the 2013 championships.
